Recombinant Staphylococcus aureus Protein A

Protein A is a Staphylococcus aureus cell wall protein that binds specifically to IgG and a few IgM and IgA of many mammals, primarily to the Fc region of immunoglobulin heavy chains. Protein A can be coupled with a variety of reporter molecules (fluorescent dyes, enzyme labels, biotin, colloidal gold, radioactive labels, etc.) without affecting its binding activity with antibodies, these coupling reactions can be used for ELISA assays, histochemistry, Blot-Western antibody detection. After protein A is combined with sepharose, an affinity filler for antibody purification can also be prepared, and antibodies of various mammalian subtypes or genetically engineered recombinant proteins containing antibody Fc fragments can be isolated and purified from ascites, serum, cell culture supernatant or cell extracts.
